JU student beats up by fellows

Some rowdy students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday allegedly beat up one of their fellow over trifling matter on the campus.

The critical injured, Arafat Hossain Siam, a second year student of Physics department and resident student of Mir Mosharraf Hossain (MMH) Hall, was admitted to local Medical College Hospital in Savar, after taking primary treatment from JU Medical Centre.

Arafat in a complaint to the proctor yesterday, says led by Saikat, Murad, Sakib, some 13-14 students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (BSMR), Moulana Bhasani (MB) Hall and Rafiq Jebbar hall, beat him with hockey and iron sticks, local arms while he was returning from the department around 1.00 pm.

The other attackers were Nazmul of Philosophy, Sabuz of Chemistry, Murad of History, Shaikat of CSE, Nahid of International and Relations, Sakib of Mathematics, Mehedi of philosophy department and all are the second year students.

Source said, the incident was took place marking its previous enmity over trifle matter between MMH hall and BSMR  hall. The attackers also involve with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of JU hall unit, the ruling parties student body.

When contacted, JU BCL President Jewel Rana denied the involvement of his organisation with the incident and urged to the university authorities to take proper initiative.

Denying the allegations, one of the attackers Murad said, “I am have not any involvement to the incident.” Other attackers could not be reached after several attempts.

JU Proctor Tapan Kumar Saha said, “Steps would be taken after doing proper investigation to the matter.”
