Awaited discussion between the protester and the administration of Jahangirnagar university(JU) has placed at the university’s new administrative building on Thursday.
The administration of the university has accepted two points of the three-point demand including relocating of the dormitories, revision of the masterplan and judicial inquiry into the allegation of corruption, acting register Rahima Kaniz confirmed it.
The meeting started at 6 pm and ended without a final decision at about 9.30 pm. The rest of the discussion will be discussed on next Wednesday.
Acting register said, “Two male dormitories will be relocate on the vacant place of the campus with a view to minimize the cutting down of trees. The masterplan review committee, all student organizations and other teacher students will be discussed about the relocation of the dormitories. VC has taken three working days to consult on judicial inquiry into corruption,”
A 22-membered delegation of teachers and students of the banner ‘Jahangirnagar against corruption’ participated in the on a three-way demand.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam, Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Amir Hossain, Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Nurul Alam, Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md. Manjurul Haque, Registrar (Acting) Rahima Kaniz, Project Director (Acting) Engineer Nasir Uddin and Executive Engineer (Civil) Ahsan Habib participated in the meeting on behalf of the administration.
Professor Jamal Uddin, Professor khabir Uddin of Environmental sciences, Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Raihan Raine, ASM Anwarullah Bhuiyan of philosophy department, Shamima Sultana of Bangla department, Tarek Reza of Geography and Environment department were presented on the meeting to holds their demands.
Among the students president of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance Ashikur Rahman, general secretary Shahidul Islam Pappu, publicity secretary Maruf Mozammel, president of Bangladesh Students Union, JU unit, Nazir Amin Chowdhury Joy, general secretary Ariful Islam Anik, activist Rakibul Haque. general secretary Md Didar, Organizational Secretary Shobhan Rahman, Socialist Chhatra Front (Marxist) JU unit President Mahathir Mohammad, general secretary Sudipta Dey, office secretary Rebeka Ahmed and prolocutor of “Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad” JU unit, Khan Muntasir Arman , joint convenor Ariful Islam, Jaynal Abedin Shisir also took part on the discussion.
Earlier, The protesters blocked the administrative building of the university for three days holding the three-point demand, on September 7. Then, VC invited the agitated protester on a dialogue to discuss on their demands and to vacated the controversy of corruption in development project.
