The protesting students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) alleged that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam is now playing ‘Tom and Jerry’ centering her visit at the exam halls of intake test under the academic session 2019-20 of the university.
‘JU VC has been announced ‘persona-non-grata’ at the examination halls as she had direct involvement in corruption of Tk 2 cores scandal. She has lost her morality to hold VC post’, claimed Joynal Abedin Shishir, one of the organizers of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’.
He came up with the remarks in a reaction after sudden visit in the examination hall by Professor Farzana Islam at the Physics department around noon when most of the protesting student and teachers went to launch.
‘JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam is visiting exam hall very secretly that we could not inform earlier. Such type of behavior of Vice-Chancellor proved that she is guilty over the corruption’, he added.
Prof. Sayeed Ferdous, one of the spokesperson of the platform said, ‘We are not like picketers. VC Professor Farzana cannot ethically able to visit examination hall. There is no boldness in such activities. She is the not desirable person to us as she became corrupted’.
Earlier, Protesters showed “Black Flag” to vice-chancellor (VC) Prof. Farzana Islam of Jahangirnagar University (JU) for the second consequent days at the Social Science faculty premises where 21 teachers took part at the protest programme.
Speakers at the programme urged VC to resign immediately.
The protest made under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ in front of the university’s social science faculty today before the test has began.
Addressing the programme, Professor Anwarullah Bhuiyan of Philosophy department said, “As admission tests are underway, we are flexibly following our program. It does not mean that our flexibility is a weakness. If you (VC) do not resign in honor by October 1, you will be obliged to resign bearing the responsibility of deadlock situation on the campus’.
Among others, Professor Sohel Rana, General Secretary of the Teachers’ Association, Professor Sayed Ferdous of Anthropology department, Mirza Taslima Sultana, Professor Kamrul Ahsan, Raihan Raine of Philosophy department, Professor Jamal Uddin Runu of Environmental Sciences, Professor Shamima sultana, Professor Nazmul Hasan Talukder, Professor Tareq Reza of Bangla department were also spoke among others.
Leaders and activist of Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance, Students Union, Socialist Student Front and quota reformist were also present on the protest programme.
Earlier, the protesting student and teachers announced VC as ‘persona non grata’ at the examination hall during the admission test and demanded her resignation from her post on September 19 after foiling a meeting with university authorities.
On Monday noon, VC Professor Farzana Islam accompanied by Pro VC Professor Md Nurul Alam, Treasurer Professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq and Acting Registrar Rahima Kaniz visited exam center at Physics department very secretly ignoring the announcement by the protesters, source said.
