Protesters condemn JU VC

A faction of teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) protested the corruption, irregularities and arbitrariness of Vice Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam through a human chain today. On September 25, the protest made under the banner of “ Jahangirnagar Against Corruption” at the university`s central Shaheed Minar premises and black flags were displayed to VC on the protest program. The protesters said that Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam temporarily relieved from her duty without investigating corruption by depositing her self-esteem and dignity to higher authorities.They also complained that the reputation of the university had deteriorated for such activity of VC. In a speech written by Shahidul Islam, general secretary of Jahangirnagar Cultural Coalition on Human Rights, Ariful Islam Anik, general secretary of the students union Jahangirnagar University Parliament, said, “The vice-chancellor has misused his position. We have unanimously rejected Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam for irregularities, lies, and corruption and declared unwanted at the admission test center. We want him to resign by October first. ‘ In a concluding statement, Professor of Philosophy department, Kamrul Ahsan said, “We want the Vice Chancellor to investigate the allegations raised against him.” But the vice-chancellor is not doing so. We expect that she will resign within the next 5 days.” Professor Anwarullah Bhuiyan of Philosophy Department, Professor Khabir Uddin, Professor Jamal Uddin Runu of Environmental Sciences, Professor Sayed Ferdous, Professor Mirza Taslima Sultana of Anthropology, Professor Shamima Sultana, Nazmul Hasan Talukder, Professor Tarek Reza of bangla department, Professor Nurul Islam of Geography and Environment also spoke on the program among others. Besides, the leaders and activists of Ju Cultural Alliance, Students Union, Socialist Student Front, Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parisad also present on the program. Later,Professor of Philosophy department, Raihan Rhine, announced the program of protest march and brief rally tomorrow (Thursday) at noon.
