More than 2000 families marooned as flashflood hits Chapainawabganj

More than 2,000 families in Sadar and Shibganj upazilas of Chapainawabganj have been marooned because of flashflood brought about by on surge of water from the upstream and ascent of water levels in the Padma and the Mahananda streams.

Official specialist nearby Water Development Board office Syed Sahidul Alam Zila said the water level in the Padma River began to expand 10/12 days back because of surge of slope water from India.

The water level in the Padma waterway expanded by 5cm and that of Mahananda stream by 10 cm over the most recent 24 hours, he included.

Low-lying territories of Narayanpur, Alatuli, Shahajahanpur, Charanupur, Debinagar of Sadar upazila and Paka, Durlovpur and Monakosha regions of Shibganjupazila went submerged because of the blaze flood, he said .

Zila Agriculture Office sources said at any rate 6,280 hectares of winter vegetables went submerged in Shibganj, Bholahat and Sadar upazilas’ stream bank zones, making misfortunes famers.

Sadar upazila venture usage official Moudud Alam said more than 900 families were marooned in Narayanpur, Alatuli, Charanupur, Debinagar associations of the upazila and more than nine metric tons rice were disseminated among the influenced families.

Shibganj upazila venture execution official architect Ariful Islam said reliefs were circulated among 400 flood-influenced families in the upazila.
