A faction of Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday made strike demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam on corruption charges.

The protesting teachers and students started the blockade on Wednesday morning in front of the university’s new and old administrative building.
They gave a ultimatum to Professor Farzana Islam on October 8 demanding voluntary resignation accusing her of corruption and moral fallout.. The protesters called for a blockade from the morning as she wasn`t resigned during that period.

Earlier in a press conference on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam said she would not resign, calling the protesters ‘irrational’.

As part of the blockade program, the protestors blocked the transport system of the university at Bismail area around 12pm on Tuesday. Thereby, no trafic were left on various routes from the campus to the capital.

At 5:30 am, the protesting teachers and students took up all the gates of the university’s new and old administrative buildings. As a result, the administration of the university has seen a halt. However, the final examination of various departments and institutes is not exempt from the blockade.
