A faction of Teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday organized a human chain program to protest the ongoing movement against Prof Farzana Islam.
The protest made under the banner of “Bangabandhu Teachers Council” at the university`s central Shaheed minar premises at around 11.30am.
Meanwhile, protesters have called for the platform “Jahangirnagar against corruption” to withdraw the strike on the university demanding the resignation of the Vice Chancellor.
Professor Ajit Kumar Majumder, president of the University`s Teachers Association, said, “Movement and conspiracy are two things. There will be discussion if movement placed. The discussion will solve the problem. If you do not go without discussion, then it is a conspiracy.”
Professor Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, president of the “Bangabandhu Teachers ‘Council” said “ The probe Committee are now inquiring the protestors demand but they demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor. This proves that there is a conspiracy behind this movement.”
” We will not bow down to any irrational movement.” He added.
Professor Bashir Ahmed, general secretary of the Bangabandhu Teachers’ Council for Human Relations, said, “A faction is conducting an irrational movement to disrupt the development project. No irrational movement will succeed in this university.”
He expressed optimism that the agitators would soon withdraw the movement if they realized their mistake.
Hundreds of teachers including Professor AA Mamun, Professor Abdullah Hel Kafi, Professor Hanif Ali, Professor Rasheda Akhter, Professor Ali Azam Talukder were present in the human chain.
Meanwhile, protesters have called for a two-day strike and blockade the administrative building as a pre-planned program,under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar against corruption’. As part of the program, they blockade the bus in JU to Dhaka root on Wednesday night.
The protesters blocked the new and old administrative building of the university at 5:30 am. Due to the strike, most of the departments have closed classes. Officials and employees could not enter into the office because of the blockade.Administrative activities are also closed.
