JU students blocks Dhaka-Aricha highway: justice for Abrar sought

Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) staged protests march and blocked Dhaka-Aricha highway on Tuesday after an undergraduate, Abrar was beaten to death, allegedly by ruling party activists, for criticising the government over a water-sharing deal with India.

Around 50 students of different departments brought out a protest procession from the university`s central Shaheed Minar premises at around 1pm and ended in front of the university’s main entrance after parading main roads of the campus. Later, the agitating students blockaded the Dhaka-Aricha Highway demanding justice for Abrar while chanting slogans demanding justice for Abrar.

The students urged the government to take immediate action against the killers who killed Abrar brutally. Such kind of incident would be happened again if the murderers were not punished.

In the concluding speech, President of JU Student Union, Nazir Amin Chowdhury Joy said, “On 1971, Bengali’s raised the slogan that Delhi or Dhaka. Today we are giving the same slogan. The country has changed but the situation has not changed. East Bengal has been made as Bangladesh but the mastery power of West Pakistan has taken India today. Transit from Bangladesh to India is given to them. In the process, they are sucking Bangladesh.”

Abrar was murdered after being given a status on Facebook. We protest it and want proper trial for the murderer and the cancellation of all treaties against this country” he added.

Mentionable, Abrar, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, was allegedly tortured to dead at Sher-E-Bangla residential hall of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Monday.
