Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit observed the 56th birthday of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the campus today.
Russel, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born on October 18 in 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.
On August 15, 1975, he was brutally killed along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, when he was just a student of class four of University Laboratory School.
To mark the day, JU BCL arranged a milad,surah fatiha recitation and dua mahfil at the central mosque of the university after Jummah prayers.
A special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Russell as well as Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
Besides, they distributed educational materials and foods among the children of Green Survivor Bangladesh (GSB) organization at the university`s central cafeteria on the occasion of the birthday.
On this occasion, JU BCL president Jewel Rana said, “Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was born on this day. But on August 15, 1975, he was brutally killed along with his family members. To keep his memory bright, JU BCL celebrating his birthday with a befitting arrangement.”
