A bill to confine who gets security from the first class Special Protection Group was presented in the Lok Sabha Monday in the midst of hubbub and sloganeering by resistance by Congress pioneers. Pastor of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy presented the bill in the midst of clamor in the house. The bill expects to make revisions to the Special Protection Group Act, 1988.
The corrections will roll out two key improvements: SPG will give security just to Prime Minister of the day and close relatives dwelling with that person. Close relatives of previous PMs will get SPG security just as long as they are dwelling with the previous PM at the assigned habitation. The family will lose the security once the previous PM loses it too. This in fact implies if an ex-PM kicks the bucket, his close relatives would not be qualified for SPG spread.
The SPG Act correction charge comes days after the Center evacuated SPG spread for the Gandhi family.
