Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BSU) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit yesterday made blockade the transport yard for demanding the resolving transport crisis on the campus.
Around 1 pm, over 30 BSU leader and activists gathered at the transport yard and staged demonstration till 2 pm.
Due to the blockade, transport system was interrupted as over 10 teachers’ bus schedule were disrupted.
Leaders and activists of the organization alleged that university authorities have failed to manage transport to all routes of Dhaka metropolitan area though a large number of students move to campus from the capital.
Ariful Islam Anik, Secretary of JU BSU unit said, “We have contacted to the university authorities for several times to resolve the transport crisis. But they did not take enough initiative to minimize the crisis. So, we have compelled to blockade the transport yard”.
However, after being informed, the acting teacher of JU Transport Professor Ali Azam Talukder rushed to the spot and assured to solve the crisis between ten days.
“Within the next ten working days, two new 52-seated buses will be added in our transport system for the students. Then we will able to solve the crisis”, he said.
However, being assured the protesters withdrew their blockade after an hour.
