Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) today protested the unplanned master plan under the mega project for the further development at the campus.
On the banner of ‘Teacher-Student Unity Platform’, the protest made at a press conference that was held at the common room of Teacher-Student Centre(TSC) of the campus.
They urged to the university authorities to review the master plan after discussing different stakeholders of the university and told to stop the construction of three multistore dormitories near the Bishwa kabi Rabindranath Tagore hall concerning the biodiversity.
Besides, they announced weeklong protest programme including demonstration, light procession and raising public awareness.
Professor Anwarullah Bhuiyan of Philosophy department said, “We aren’t against the development of the university. But we also demand the conservation of the Biodiversity. There had a lot of chance of reviewing the master plan.”
Associate Professor Raihan Rayne of Philosophy department said, “The biodiversity and the ecosystem will have to be consider for making a master plan. But we have no reflection of such matter in our current master plan. So, university authorities must have to revise the master plan.”
Secretary of the JU Cultural Alliance Shahidul Islam Pappu read out a written statement at press meet.
